FAQs

  • If you go out into an old growth forest, pull a sample of soil and put it under a microscope you will see a world of microscopic living creatures. These creatures work together, with our plants, to keep them alive and thriving. Unfortunately, our industrialized lifestyles have killed the vast majority of these organisms in our everyday soils. Without these organisms our plants need additive fertilizers to survive. The good news is we can fix this! We work hard to breed microorganisms so you can reinoculate them into your soils. Once the native microorganisms are restored in your soil you will enjoy natural nutrient cycling and will no longer need to use fertilizers to keep your plants alive. Other amazing benefits of a healthy microorganism population include increased water retention, decreased pest and disease, enhanced plant health and flavor and even increased carbon sequestration.

  • If this is your first biological application, or if your soil has little to no organic matter, we recommend using our Living Compost.

If you have well established soil our liquid extract is best for you.

Fresh Humic Acid is a fungal food meant to help increase your fungal to bacterial ratio. It does not contain a significant amount of additive microorganisms. It can also be used to dechlorinate water.

  • Here are our minimum application recommendations.

    Living Compost

    15 gallons / 1000 square feet

    Living Extract

    10 gallons / 1000 square feet

    Humic Acid

    10 gallons / 1000 square feet

You cannot over apply any of these products. Increased application will only help establish your biology quicker and stronger.

  • We recommend applying living amendments any time the night time temperatures are consistently over freezing. Living amendments applied in the fall will survive over winter as, long as it is well established before the cold.

During your establishing season we recommend applying once every 3-4 weeks throughout the season. Once you have established your microorganisms, they will continue to thrive on their own. In your second season we recommend 2-3 applications to boost your biology. In later seasons your biology should sustain itself with proper care.

  • Living Extracts and Composts can be used in a large variety of ways. Here are some of our favorites:

    • Mix compost in with your seedling mix to start your seeds.

    • Bottom water seedlings with extract.

    • Add compost in furrow when planting into a new bed.

    • Refresh beds with compost or extract.

    • Save struggling plants with extracts or composts by concentrating application between the stem and the drip line.

  • Yes and no.

We create our extracts by washing the microorganisms off of our compost into dechlorinated water. This is a similar process to what many people use to create compost tea.

The biggest difference between your standard compost tea and our extracts is that we guarantee a full soil food web and a high density of microorganisms by hand checking everything under a microscope. Our products are significantly more microorganism dense than the average homemade compost tea and contain fresh humic acid to continue to feed your organisms.

  • The internet is full of amazing educational blogs and videos about the beauty and excitement of soil microorganisms (aka microbes). We highly recommend both Dr. Elaine Ingham and Matt Powers educational content. If you live in the Chattanooga area, we encourage you to come to an in person workshop some time.
